Having met AJ Sacil during his early days shooting events and products for Limited Edt, we had a blast sipping drinks, cracking jokes and learning how this tireless young man carved his own path and opportunity to landing his current role producing global content for Hypebeast. It has certainly not been the easiest journey having to juggle school while doing creative work on the side and AJ’s DIY fearlessness is a refreshing lesson in taking the reigns and carving out opportunities out for oneself. In spite of set-backs, frustrations and failures, his resilience and positive mind set has allowed him to ride though constant challenges to where he currently relishes working on a diverse range of clients and subjects. Farid is an LE Way skater and the founder of Concord Skate Co, a Singaporean skate brand that has a proud local team who rep the brand’s decks and apparel; Ming Yew skates for Concord, was a former Adidas creator and has modelled for campaigns by luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Bape and HUGO. They certainly are the envy and inspiration to many young skaters, who perceive their status as “pro” and successful. But beneath the sheen that social media sugar-coats is the harsh reality of being taking advantage of, getting injured, not getting paid, projects and promises that quickly turn south and taking on additional side gigs late into the night to provide a little bit more for themselves. Yet, these two lads are full of excitement for greater things to come in chasing their dreams and creating something uniquely their own.
