  • Episode 121: Feeling like you don't belong? The solution is easier than you think!
What does it mean to belong? Like the kind of belonging that when you don’t go to the party your friends still think you are there, not because you’re invisible but because you are so part of the crew that of course you were there! Sadly, so many of us feel the opposite, like we are the odd one out, that we just don’t really belong. But do we really not belong or is it a choice we made to protect ourselves? We are making the case for it being a choice, a choice to belong to yourself first. And from there you will find the places you choose to belong to. Because the honest truth is that any group you want to be part of is lucky to have you. The you that knows your worth and knows that you add value. You know which rooms you want to be in, and which rooms you don’t want to be in. It comes back to the ‘for me, for you, for us’ idea. And when you truly do belong, I belong to you and you belong to me! Let’s break down our key points…* You can stand out, but if you are standing apart then you’ll always feel like there is a disconnect. * Belonging is not about shrinking to fit, it is about belonging and then standing out.* How the “I don’t belong here” stories sneak in (like when comparing download numbers or success metrics)* How childhood experiences shape how we see belonging as adults* What it means to stop moving the bar and start owning who you already areFrom podcasting and mountain biking to horses and high school friend groups, this conversation goes deep into why we so often feel like we’re not enough - and how to change that story once and for all.Because you don’t need to have 20,000 downloads, a perfect ride, or the right clothes to belong. You just have to decide that you do.Connect with Your Hosts🎙️ Natasha Lockey – Business Builder & Mountain Bike Life Performance CoachInstagram: @bettygohardSubstack: natashalockey.substack.comWebsite: ridingintheweeds.comGinny Brandon – Animal Communicator & Energy HealerInstagram: @soulpetconnectionsWebsite: soulpetconnections.comSubstack: soulpetconnections.substack.com Get full access to Riding in the Weeds Podcast at ridingintheweeds.substack.com/subscribe

  • Episode 120 - How to Become the Person Who Already Has What You Want.
Remember when you were a kid and you played dress up with your Mom’s stuff. You embodied her, in your mind you were her. This is how we get everything we ever want in this world. You say you want to do the thing, to become the person who, but life gets in the way and you just don’t get there. There is some simple science that those that get what they want use and those that don’t, don’t. It’s called timeline jumping. And how you do it is by stepping into the version of you that already has the thing. Because it has been proven that the way you think about yourself is what shapes your reality. Mindset must come first. When we can see and feel the version of ourselves who already does the thing - shows up, rides the trail, eats the veggies, builds the business. They already exist. And how you relate to them is by changing what you believe about who you are.Listen in this week as we get into how the thoughts you have about yourself today literally shape your past, your future, and the results you see right now. Our conversation in a few points: - Why lasting change starts with deciding you’re the kind of person who does the thing- How “timeline jumping” can be explained in real world terms - and why it actually works- How trusting the nervous system is key across all areas of life from horses to mountain bikes to posting online. - Back to our cookies and carrots - how that choice becomes easy when you are your future version not separate from them. - How embodying the future version of yourself changes your habits, your energy, and your outcomesYou can do life one of two ways…as the person that is waiting to be who you want to be or stand in the truth that you already are whoever you want to be, it is just a matter of catching up to the future. And the timeline for that is up to you and who you embody today. So, instead of trying to force change, try this: decide you’re already the type of person who does it. Watch how fast everything starts to shift.References Mentioned* The Perfectionist’s Guide to Losing Control by Katherine Morgan Schafler* Taking Small Steps Episode: https://ridingintheweeds.substack.com/p/episode-101-one-step-at-a-time-the?r=3kbdbg* Tash’s Learn Spanish APP - https://natasha-lockeys-team.adalo.com/baja-spanishConnect with Your Hosts🎙️ Natasha Lockey – Business Builder & Mountain Bike Life Performance CoachInstagram: @bettygohardSubstack: natashalockey.substack.comWebsite: ridingintheweeds.com🦄 Ginny Brandon – Animal Communicator & Energy HealerInstagram: @soulpetconnectionsWebsite: soulpetconnections.comSubstack: soulpetconnections.substack.com Get full access to Riding in the Weeds Podcast at ridingintheweeds.substack.com/subscribe

  • Episode 119: This Thanksgiving, Skip the Gratitude List - Do This Instead
If you are in the USA this is the week that kicks of the holiday season. For some it is a time looked forward to all year, for others it is a time that they dread. For everyone it is an opportunity to define exactly what being thankful looks like, even when it feels like there is nothing to be thankful for!! The thing is that it’s easy to be thankful when life is easy, so really the way we are wired as humans, it is always a challenge!! Because we are literally wired for negativity. So let’s talk about this!! Tools for being thankful everyday, but going even deeper tools for managing when you are already stretched and then more piles on top. As always we bring the stories to help bring the lesson home. Because gratitude is easy when everything’s working, everyone is getting along and life is comfortable. And the power of keeping that space when you’re standing in your attic with water pouring from the roof and you’re 8 days into a sugar detox diet with your partner. True growth happens not in controlling the environment so you can ‘be grateful’ it happens when you can find grace in the mess. Here’s what we explore this week:* Why sometimes “being grateful” feels impossible - and what to do with that* How perspective shifts when you can’t fix the situation (or the ceiling)* The power of choosing calm in the middle of chaos* How small blessings (like a hose and a shop vac) can remind us we’re supported* Why gratitude is less about lists and more about presenceWe stray far from Thanksgiving as a holiday and how to manage your family, and only briefly pause on the practice of writing that daily gratitude list. What you’ll get is a solid and friendly reminder that even in the middle of soggy insulation, broken plans, and chaos, you can still find moments of peace - sometimes by laughing, sometimes by crying, and sometimes by just saying, “It’s okay, it’s going to sort itself out.”So wherever you are - cooking dinner, walking the dog, or cleaning up your own version of a leaky roof - take this one with you. Because gratitude isn’t about perfection. It’s about actually just about choosing it, regardless of what is happening around you. • Episode 118: Do this to make that change stick for reals this time!
To be human is to want to improve, to grow. You can see your future self and she eats better, exercises daily, takes those steps to build her business, has more sex, or whatever it might be…so why am I sleeping in, eating chocolate before bed, scrolling the internet and ignoring my partner??Let’s talk about change, lasting change, or better than that, let’s talk about taking daily actions that light us up and make us want more of that dopamine hit…Because renovations don’t happen overnight, and they sure don’t happen without a few hiccups (just ask Ginny, but that is for next week). Renovations are about working with the team, which in this case is me, myself and I. (I tried you, yourself and ? that just didn’t quite work here) but you get what we are saying. The quick notes…* Resistance - what? yes it’s there let’s figure out what the heck is in the way, cos that is the real reason we are not even getting this plane off the ground. * How did walking before you crawled work out for most? let’s figure out how to crawl and then we can start running all without giving up first. * The “vegetable test” - I’m not giving you any clues on this one, listen in and find out. * How Ginny’s horses prove all our points. * The whole conversation - small, consistent steps build momentum and confidence, why this works, because you build trust in yourself, you then feel great, and then you can’t stop because the dopamine hit feels so darn good. It really doesn’t matter what you are trying to change, if it is important to you then it is worth taking the time to do it, do it right and make it stick. We go from quitting sugar to training rescue horses, from trying to post more on Instagram to starting a new habit, this week we get real on how to make real change and why this way works. And give yourself a break, you are not meant to be perfect. You are meant to be you; beautiful, messy and worthy of changing the world in your unique way. The biggest progress you can make is learning to trust yourself and make change from a place of love and acceptance of the you you were yesterday, the you you are today and the you you are becoming!! You are her and she is you! • Episode 117: How to Choose Happiness
If you are being buffeted by life it is because you have learnt that when good things happen your heart opens. You attach feeling good to things that have made you feel good and feeling bad to things that have made you feel bad. And then you make your decisions in life through that lense. Screw that! This week we are taking back control. You get to choose, not the outside world. Not the events of your day, week, life. But you! In this conversation, we open up the doors to the big secret….You actually are the one in charge. When you have control of your heart, you can open it and feel love, anytime, anywhere, even when life is shitty, hard and overwhelming. And well you can also close it and feel like s**t, even if things are good. We’ve been here before and we are going here again. Joy, happiness, love is an inside job. Here’s what we explore in this episode:- Why we’ve been taught to close our hearts when things get hard- How your nervous system learns to chase safety instead of joy- The difference between emotional connection and emotional dependence- A nightly reflection practice to train your brain to notice what’s good- How to shift your energy from reaction to awareness (without bypassing the hard stuff)- Real stories from life on the road - and why “the perfect moment” doesn’t existCome along for the ride as we share our personal experiences with all these things and ways we are learning to put this into practice. Oh and the fact that we totally don’t manage it, a lot. What we are learning is that you don’t need the perfect sunset, the right partner, or a margarita by the pool to feel good. You just need to remember that you can open your heart anytime, anywhere. And sometimes an epic sunset, amazing partner, cold margarita by the pool (I love pools) are like the icing on an already delish cake. Join us for this one, cos it’s not about what’s happening, it’s about being in charge of your heart, not at the mercy of life. References Mentioned* The Untethered Soul by Michael A.
