  • HoM: Doctor Who Podcast - "Day of the Daleks" Review & More
Series 1, Episode 5 - "We've all gone a little bit carried away on gorgonzola and wine." Hit or Miss: Doctor Who is back in your timeline. This time, Mike and D.K. are once again joined by the brilliant Cliff Chapman for another trip through time and space — and the usual chaotic mix of Hit or Miss debates, friendly banter, and full-on nerd analysis. Our latest adventure? The Jon Pertwee classic Day of the Daleks! We dive deep into what makes this UNIT-era tale tick - Expect deep thoughts about Dalek strategy (or lack thereof), UNIT’s impeccable mustaches, and whether Jon Pertwee could have defeated the entire invasion with just a cape flourish and a glass of vintage wine. D.K. also gives us his exclusive first-time review of the Special Edition... despite owning it for years without realizing. (We blame either DVD overload or a casual disregard for linear time. It's very on-brand.) We'll tackle the infamous flaws that led to this much-needed new version (explosions! better Dalek voices! slightly less... slow action?) Expect chat about Pertwee being effortlessly cool, the might of UNIT (and their suspiciously poor aim), and how this story laid the groundwork for everything from Days of Future Past to The Terminator. Plus: Why the Controller might just be the real MVP, and whether Ogrons are the best henchmen ever... or just confused gorillas. All this and plenty more — because if there's one thing we know, it's that changing the past never goes wrong... right? • HoM: Doctor Who Podcast - "Dalek" Review & More
Series 1, Episode 4 - "I'm a very rare Doctor Who fan who enjoys the show!" Welcome, faithful podcast fan! In the latest instalment of our deep dive into all things Dalek, your hosts Michael and D.K. return to the console room joined by returning guest Tobi and a brand new face to the pod: Jillian Speed! Not only is Jillian a lifelong Whovian, she also happened to be the Boom Operator on none other than Blink—yes, that Blink. We kick off with the usual banter about Doctor Who firsts and favourites, followed by another raucous round of Hit or Miss, before diving headfirst into a pivotal episode: the 2005 modern series debut of Skaro’s angriest blobs in pepperpots—Dalek. We’ll unpack some behind-the-scenes facts about the genesis and filming of the episode, then give our own takes on the acting, direction, visual effects, and that juicy meta commentary. As ever, we wrap things up with your audience thoughts and our final conclusions and scores—and let’s just say, this one might be heading for the higher shelves of the trophy cabinet. So hit play faster than a Dalek elevating up the stairs, and join us for a wild ride through Henry Van Statten’s Internet and one very cross mutant in a tank. • HoM: Doctor Who Podcast - "The Dalek Invasion of Earth" Review & More
Series 1, Episode 3 - "We are the masters of Earth!" The Daleks are back, and this time, they’ve conquered 22nd-century London! In this first official Hit or Miss: Doctor Who Dalek-themed episode, Mike and D.K. are coming back at you like a lone Dalek rising from the Thames. Joining the analysis are returning guest Will Templar and newcomer Cliff Chapman, and yes it's to conduct a full deep dive into The Dalek Invasion of Earth. Before diving into the serial though, the team discusses Doctor Who firsts and favourites before tackling the legendary Hit or Miss section. All of which will feature liberal doses of the metal pepperpots. Then, it's on to one of the most ambitious and iconic Doctor Who stories of all time. We’re covering everything: Daleks rolling through a shattered London, the surprisingly dark tone and themes of resistance, shocking heroic sacrifice, the sheer logistical madness of piloting a planet. We'll be dissecting iconic moments—from Robomen to Daleks rolling over Westminster Bridge, and, of course, the unforgettable farewell. We'll also touch on the legacy of the serial and its big-screen adaptation, as well as casting a more critical eye on things that may not have worked so well (looking at you, Slyther!). With deep analysis, personal reflections, and maybe a few tears shed over that goodbye, this episode is packed with everything a Doctor Who fan could want. The Daleks rule Earth—but is this serial a Hit or Miss? Tune in and find out, before you get captured for robotization! • HoM: Doctor Who Podcast - "DOCTOR WHO AND THE DALEKS" Movie Review
"You are different from them and they are afraid of anything different. And what people are afraid of, they try to destroy." "EX-TER-MI-NATE!" The 'Hit or Miss: Doctor Who' series is about to be invaded by those dreaded Daleks! To celebrate the official launch of our first Doctor Who podcast series we're revisiting an old upload originally recorded for our sister podcast, Silver Screen. We're looking at a familiar story with some unfamiliar changes for the big screen: 1965's 'Dr. Who and the Daleks'. Mike, DK and guest Will Templar join the human scientist named Doctor Who, his granddaughters Barbara and Suzy, and hapless comic relief Ian as they board TARDIS and land on the distant planet of Skaro. There will be discussions on Dalekmania, origins, comparisons with the original TV serial, the changes and impact of Amicus' cinematic transfer and personal thoughts on it. As always there will be a critical eye applied, the audience's opinion shared and the movie scored out of five stars. Hopefully you enjoy this little Skarosian appetizer, we'll be back with the start of a hefty main course of new content in just one week! And, oh no, it looks like the Daleks are the masters of Earth... Music by Timeless Journey.
