The American Embassy in Iran came under siege by terrorists on February 14th of 1979, Valentine's Day. On that day, Ken's entire life and commitment to service were left to miracles that transpired during the attack, abduction, torture, release, and debrief as he made his way home. Bill Countryman – is a 22-year member of the EPS with both operational and investigative experience. He is currently in the Disaster Emergency Operations Preparedness Section (DEOPS). Bill’s role within DEOPS is to support the EPS with logistical planning and training in support of major events, protests & rallies, and disaster response. This discussion examines the purpose and approach of the EPS Public Safety Unit, which manages crowds at large or high-risk events. We look at how to better inform the public about police intent and actions while addressing common misconceptions.
